Fergus slipped out the screen door when my husband went to retrieve his Sirius antenna, 9:30 Wednesday night, June 4th. We weren't even aware that he was missing until the next morning when he didn't show up for breakfast. We both got dressed - I called work and hubby started looking outside. No luck. Wednesday night there had been a really bad thunder storm and Thursday was too hot and humid for words. Poor Fergus! We were hoping someone had taken him in, even though he is very skittish around anyone but my husband Nelson. We spent the whole day searching. We made flyers and posted them around the neighborhood, spoke to anyone we saw and Nelson took flyers to Petco, Petsmart and our vet's office. I called animal control for instructions on what to do. We filed a LOST CAT report and she told us where they were located so we could check for him. She also suggested yuor website - for ideas about catching indoor cats that get out. We put out bowls of food and water, and Nelson put a whole camping thing out in the backyard so he could sit out there all night and wait for Fergus to appear. Around 9 p.m. Nelson walked up into the woods behind our house and started quietly calling for Fergus. He heard a rustle. He called again. He heard a peep. He spotted some white fur 30 feet away and started toward it. It was FERGUS!!!! Nelson briefly got his hands on him before Fergus ran away. Then Nelson just sat down in the woods, in the dark, on the wet ground, and pretended to be just hanging out. :-) Fergus slowly approached, then headbutted Nelson. SCOOP!!!! "Guess who I found outside!" I popped out of bed and ran to see Fergus. He looked fine, a wee bit fluffy and very hungry! We never would have focused so close to home if it weren't for your instructions. Believe me, a humane trap was on our list for Friday. THANK YOU!!!

I love this site!! My only request is that it be updated more frequently, esp. the adopted animals page, I love to see when animals find loving homes and it shows your wonderful work.

We got our good boy Finnegan through TOH. I can't say enough for all the support and care that were given to both he and us. It had been a while since we had a puppy in the house so it was really appreciated when Finn's foster family and Libby helped us through the adjustment period. Now Finn is just our good boy.

Very helpful website, you folks do a great job with animal descriptions, etc. - I am so glad that there are organizations like yours who care so much about creating good lives for so many animals.

What a great site and group you are! I myself have 3 rescued dogs and 11 rescued cats, seems I have a "welcome here" sign on my front door! Keep up the great work and if there comes a time when I can foster I will be glad to do so.

I googled black cats and found your page. I am ordering the calendar today. I have a very large and imposing looking black cat named Leroy. However, he is a marshmallow and is the most loving and sweetest cat. I have adored cats since I was a baby and especially black ones. My Leroy is my best friend.

Sedona (Patti adopted 11/25/2007) is really enjoying her new home as much as we are enjoying her. She thoroughly enjoys her many and differed walks; she has so many trails to choose from. We are in the process of aiding Sedona in the addition a few more pounds (vet recommended) and she is enjoying her home cooked meals (who wouldn't - ha!) Both Sedona and we are blessed that Tails of Hope was there for Sedona when she needed rescuing. She is such a gentle and kind dog. We look forward to our upcoming (1st) vacation with Sedona.

Martina (adopted 1 Nov 03) and Tina (now called Nina; adopted 27 Sep 04) are doing well. Both were on your 2004 calendar. They have both lost the weight the vets at Rocky Gorge recommended.

I just want to thank you for providing the "Finding a Lost Cat" information on your website. Our cat got out of a window that our four-year-old figured out how to open one day last May. The woman I spoke to at Howard County Animal Control directed me to your website. We followed the instructions, set food out and a humane trap, and waited. It took a month before we got our cat back, but it worked! When I began to get pessimistic, I would think of the advice and how it said to not give up. I still can't believe that our cat was living in the brush behind a barn on our property the whole time. We searched and called there all of the time, but it was the help we found here that led to us getting him back. THANK YOU!

We adopted lil' Edgar after my mom met him while helping our cousin Baltimore foster him. In Aug when I moved her to Newport News, she asked if she could adopt Edgar. Well, Edgar is living a spoiled life in Virginia with his forever family of Shiiloh, Yoda, Spike the cat and my mom and me. He has been a bright light in mom's life and has given her a bit of hope and love when she was feeling alone after the loss of dad.

We adopted Skipper last year, he is the best thing to come into our lives. He is the love of my daughters life. Thank you for the love that you give the pets prior to finding their forever homes. Janet was a wonderful foster mom and very careful who she gave Skipper to. We feel blessed every day that she chose us. I think he does too....
