Rocket Toes was born on a farm near Frederick. All of his siblings died but he was determined and survived his ordeal. During his struggle as a kitten, before he was rescued, he suffered with a severe upper respiratory infection and contracted the herpes virus. His rescuer discovered him when he was about 3 months old and initially thought he was blind. A visit to the veterinary opthalmologist revealed that he was not blind but his corneas had sloughed off and his third eyelids had adhered to his eyeballs. There was no surgical remedy and as the doctor said, it is impossible to know exactly how much vision he has.
What he lacks in terms of eyesight he makes up for in personality. He is bold and playful and can maneuver horizontally and run like the wind (how he got his name!). He does not do well vertically and does not venture up the cat furniture. When he looks at you it is as if he is looking over bifocals. He absolutely loves attention and is a purr machine but does not like to be held....A wonderful companion but not a lap cat. He is strong-willed and has a mind of his own so it is not easy to administer eye medication. Fortunately, he does not routinely require it.
I have been his foster mom for about 5 years and thought that he would stay will me forever. However, as he has gotten older he has become very aggressive with the other cats and picks on the timid ones constantly. I've tried time-outs but to no avail. He is, after all, a cat and will do what he pleases.
Hopefully someone reading this will appreciate his uniqueness and will fall in love with his personality. He truly is one of a kind. He does love to play and he could probably co-exist with another self-assured male cat.
Meet him and "see" for yourself how wonderful he is. A wellness exam will be paid for at the veterinarian of your choice prior to adoption.
